AD Alcorcón picked up the three points at the Carlos Tartiere on a strange evening in Oviedo. The absence of Susaeta forced Fernando Hierro to alter his line up, again opting for Rocha on the wing, but bringing in Linares alongside Toché up front.
Alcorcón emerged the stronger of the two sides in the first half, whilst not threatening too much in attack. Real Oviedo grew into the game, gaining control of possession, but they didn’t have a clear chance until after the thirtieth minute. Toché fired a shot across goal, after being fed the ball by Linares, but Dimitrovic denied his effort. Real Oviedo began to apply pressure in the latter stages of the first half, but Toché was again unable to apply the finishing touch, this time from Jon Erice’s pass. The half-time whistle blew just after Rocha’s effort grazed the post.
In the second half David Rocha again tried his luck, with a shot from the edge of the area which was deflected wide. Toché had the next effort on goal, heading Erice’s cross wide. Alcorcón’s defence diverted Linares’ attempt out for a corner, and Fernando Hierro sought greater potency in attack, introducing Michu and Nando in place of Rocha and Linares. However, Real Oviedo then conceded the only goal of the match, with Álvaro Giménez giving victory to Alcorcón. Real Oviedo had complete control of the ball for the remainder of the match, but were unable to create clear-cut opportunities. Michu fired a strong shot towards the roof of the net, but it was tipped over for a corner, and despite pushing forward, Real Oviedo were incapable of finding an equaliser.
The next training session will be tomorrow, at 10:30, at El Requexón.
