Javi Rozada's team wanted a win at the Carlos Tartiere to taste home success for the first time this season, following last week's victory at the Carlos Belmonte. They wanted to get the Real Oviedo fans enjoying the matches again and keep fighting back from their start to the season, as well as continuing along the path set out in the previous few matches. And they achieved it.
Alfredo Ortuño came back into the side and gave Los Azules the lead in the seventh minute. The assist was provided by Marco Sangalli, who is in fine form, and had already fired a warning shot in the home side's first attack of the match. The Basque winger then linked up with Saúl Berjón, and the captain's powerful strike was cleared for a corner. With the Asturians in control of the game and in the lead, the visitors had Granell dismissed barely fifteen minutes into the match. Girona readjusted having gone down to ten men, but Real Oviedo maintained control of the match and continued to create most of the danger. Ortuño, the league's topscorer then grabbed his second, after Saúl won the ball in fine fashion, with Sangalli picking up another assist. Real Oviedo took a 2-0 lead, but a Stuani goal just before the break breathed new life into Girona going into the second half.
With the lead having been cut, Real Oviedo continued to try to extend the lead after the interval. Some fine work from Mossa and Saúl led to the captain squaring the ball from the wing, into the path of Borja Sánchez, who produced a high-quality finish from the edge of the box to make the score 3-1. Joselu and Bárcenas came on, and there were still further twists to come in the match. Girona cut the deficit once more, with Marc Gual making the score 3-2, but Javi Rozada's side did not falter. Panamanian winger Bárcenas fired home to make the score 4-2, sealing the Real Oviedo victory; the first of the season at the Carlos Tartiere.
