Real Oviedo Get Back on Their Feet

Toché grabbed the crucial goal as Real Oviedo won 1-0 in a match in which only Dimitrievski spared Nàstic de Tarragona from conceding more goals

Following a respectful minute’s silence in which the Carlos Tartiere paid tribute to the victims of the air accident involving Brazilian side Chapecoense, the match began with Real Oviedo needing to pick themselves up. Following the five goals conceded in Alcorcón, Jon Erice and Toché were brought in for Rocha and Pereira in the only changes to the starting eleven, and it would prove effective right from kick off.

Nàstic de Tarragona thwarted the first Real Oviedo attack. The free kick swung in by Susaeta couldn’t find its target, and Christian Fernández’s cross was kept out by the Catalans’ keeper. Shortly afterwards Dimitrievski also managed to keep out Michu’s effort from Miguel Linares’ cross, in what was a pre-rehearsed move. Nàstic then had an opportunity on goal, but fired wide. From the next passage of play, Toché scored the only goal of the encounter. Susaeta’s corner came in towards the back post, where Toché was waiting, unmarked, to head into the back of the net. Verdés couldn’t quite extend the lead from inside the six-yard box, as the Catalan side’s goalkeeper again came to their rescue, somehow keeping the ball out with his foot. Dimitrievski again kept out a back-post header from Susaeta from a cross swung in from the left wing.

After the break the match continued in the same fashion, with Nàstic promptly turning to their bench to search for a reaction, while Real Oviedo maintained their defensive solidity. Torró was twice denied by the opposition keeper, once from a header from a free kick, and then from a fine low strike from the edge of the Nàstic box. Susaeta tried to find the top corner from a couple of free kicks, but both went over the top of the bar.

The match finished 1-0, giving Real Oviedo three points which strengthen their position in the upper echelons of the league.
