‘A club like no other’, far from being an exaggeration, is a true reflection of what Real Oviedo experiences every season on its social media platforms. As we are about to begin the preseason leading up to the 2024/25 season, it is time to take stock of what happened on the club’s social media platforms last season.
LaLiga sets goals for Second Division clubs in terms of follower growth, views, and engagement, which Real Oviedo not only meets but far exceeds. In addition to the usual presence on X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and the Chinese network Sina Weibo, we have added this year the official channel of the club on WhatsApp and the Twitch platform, with weekly live broadcasts with the help of our sponsor Caja Rural.
But if anything is striking, it is the data that year after year shows Real Oviedo fans as some of the most active on social media, not only in the division but also in Spanish football as a whole. The content posted this past year has generated a growth of more than 52% in terms of engagement compared to last season, which also generated record figures. Views grew by 62%, surpassing the 40% target set by LaLiga, and the number of followers increased by 1,020,793, growing by 62% and standing at 2,662,584 followers as of July 7.
According to data from Blinkfire Analytics, a leading business intelligence and marketing analysis platform for evaluating sports sponsorships, Real Oviedo has been the leader in engagement among the teams that played and play in LaLiga Hypermotion on X and Facebook, second on Instagram behind Real Zaragoza, and fourth on TikTok behind Levante, Zaragoza, and Albacete. It is worth noting that Real Oviedo has also surpassed Granada and Almeria, relegated from LaLiga EA Sports, in engagement on X and Facebook during the 2023/24 season.
If we want to go to the global analysis, the figures are also amazing. Second in engagement on all social media platforms only behind Real Zaragoza, third in views in the rankings led by Zaragoza and Levante, fourth in number of followers behind Elche, Levante, and Zaragoza which brings Real Oviedo to the top in terms of market value of its brand on social media platforms among the teams of LaLiga Hypermotion, more than 9,600,000 euros compared to 6,200,000 euros in 2022/23.
In short, this data makes Real Oviedo a benchmark in terms of communication through social media platforms, projects the club’s image globally, and opens up new business opportunities in terms of revenue.
