Real Oviedo arrived at La Rosaleda full of excitement, and left with very little chance of reaching a playoff place.
Sergio Egea’s side started the match strongly. They played with greater calm and control and displayed quality on the ball as they began to threaten, without creating any clear chances. The penalty conceded by Ibra and converted by Adrián brought the Andalusian side into the game, however. Minutes later, Bare’s dismissal meant that Málaga went down to ten men and Real Oviedo pushed, as they tried to make the most of their numerical advantage. However, on the stroke of halftime Ontiveros’ screamer made the score 2-0.
Following halftime and despite their substitutions, Real Oviedo’s attacks came to nothing. With the Asturians pushing on, Cifuentes sealed a 3-0 victory for the hosts on the counter attack.
The team will now return to Oviedo, with the next training session scheduled for 10:30 on Wednesday at El Requexón.
