Three points as a reward for hard work, belief, and never giving up. Real Oviedo left the Martínez Valero with a courageous victory, which moved the team into the playoff places for the time being.
Saúl Berjón came straight back into the starting eleven in place of the suspended Yoel Bárcenas, and he had the first shot of the match, which went out for a corner. Joselu had the best chance of the first half after receiving Saúl's pass, but he fired wide. Real Oviedo began the match well, and created further chances. Christian Fernández had the next good
opportunity, meeting a free kick with his head. The teams went in for halftime with the match goalless. 'Los Azules' put a lot of energy into the first half and maintained their solidity at all times.
Javi Hernández was forced off in the second half after suffering a heavy blow to his ankle. The introduction of Javi Muñoz resulted in a change in formation, with the Asturians switching to a back four and three central midfielders. Joselu had another good chance, racing into the box, but firing wide under pressure. He made amends shortly afterwards, in the 53rd minute, as he opened the scoring. Saúl had a good chance to double the lead, but his effort was deflected into the keeper's arms. A highly unfortunate passage of play saw Nino's shot take a huge deflection off of Carlos Hernández and hit the back of the net, bringing the scores level in the 70th minute. Toché came on in place of Saúl Berjón and the forward soon went close, heading over from a corner. Johannesson tried his luck, but was denied by the keeper. Ibra took the place of Joselu and struck the post from a corner. The passage of play continued, however, and ended in a handball by one of the home defenders. Toché converted the penalty to make the score 2-1 in added time. The match came to an end seconds later, and extended Juan Antonio Anquela's side's good run of form.
The team will return to Asturias tomorrow and resume training at 17:00 on Monday at El Requexón.
