Real Oviedo went into tonight's playoff semi-final off the back of Saturday's goalless draw at the Carlos Tartiere in the first leg. Luis Carrión's side was cheered on once more by hundreds of travelling Oviedistas, who turned Eibar blue again today. The Coach opted for a starting eleven made up of Leo Román, Viti, Oier Luengo, Dani Calvo, Pomares, Colombatto, Luismi, Seoane, Borja Sánchez, Sebas Moyano and Alemão.
SD Eibar emerged strongly during the opening minutes of the match, taking control of the possession, but little by little Real Oviedo began to grow into the encounter. After a fairly uneventful start, Corpas would have the best chance for the hosts. The home forward fired goalwards following a good pass from Mario Soriano, but he was denied by a spectacular save from Leo Román. Sebas Moyano was the liveliest player for Carrión's side during the first half, and just before half-time Alemão went close to breaking the deadlock. The Brazilian almost got on the end of a Pomares cross, but the ball just evaded him.
Luis Carrión opted to use his bench shortly after the break, with Paulino de la Fuente and Abel Bretones coming on in place of Pomares and Borja Sánchez. Eight minutes after the substitutions, Alemão converted himself into the hero of the hour, getting on the end of a fabulous cross from Bretones to head past Luca Zidane and make the score 1-0. The goal saw Los Azules plant one foot in the playoff final, and SD Eibar were aware of it. Etxeberría made a triple change in search of an equaliser, but Real Oviedo killed the game with a Sebas Moyano goal on the counter attack in the 79th minute. The winger's goal gave the team breathing space and brought tears of joy to the Oviedistas, who saw the dream of promotion move one step closer.
Eibar pushed forward in the final stages in search of a goal to give the Asturians a fright, but that goal would never arrive. The final whistle blew, and Real Oviedo became a playoff finalist. The dreams remains alive and it is more real than ever, with Real Oviedo just one step, two matches, away from returning to the top flight following a 23 year absence.
The team will go back to training at 17:00 tomorrow, as preparations begin for this Sunday's playoff final first leg. The match against either Real Sporting de Gijón or RCD Espanyol will kick off at 18:30 at the Carlos Tartiere.
