Real Oviedo defender David Costas spoke to the gathered media at El Requexón today, ahead of the morning training session.
Going into the weekend's fixture at the Carlos Tartiere, which will see Los Azules come up against Eldense, the defender stated that "every match is difficult now. Eldense came from behind to win last time out, and it's a team that comes at you strongly. Our objective is to win and keep ourselves in the fight. It's going to be a difficult match, they have good players up front. We have to neutralise their threat and keep a clean sheet. We have to play how we have been in recent matches."
The centre back could be back available this weekend, having overcome the knock which had kept him out in recent weeks. "I have been working with my teammates for a while again now, and this week I completed full training sessions. I am feeling good, working hard, and I am feeling good physically."
Asked about the competition for places in defence, David Costas reasoned that "it's something good for us. It's important that we don't miss anybody. I am happy with what my teammates are doing, and you don't notice any difference no matter who plays. We have to keep growing. My teammates are doing things well, there is healthy competition for places, and it's time to convince the Gaffer."
With respect to the level in the squad, the Galician highlighted that "things are being done well right from the top down. We are working well and everyone is committed. There is a good squad with very good players, and that is thanks to the club's work. I hope luck is on our side and things work out well. We haven't lost since Mirandés, and even so we haven't quite made it into a playoff place. If we want to get in there we are going to have to keep up with the pace set by those at the top."
Finally, regarding the second half of the season and the tight nature of the division, the defender argued that "in the first half of the season there are always teams that surprise you. Now we know the other teams a bit better. They analyse us and we analyse them. It is a battle for every point, and we have to keep going how we have been."
