Javi Calleja Becomes the New Real Oviedo Head Coach

Real Oviedo has reached an agreement for Javi Calleja to become the new first-team head coach, on a deal running until June 2026.
Javier Calleja Revilla is 46 years old and was born on 12th May 1978 in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. During his playing career he came through the Real Madrid academy, before representing Villarreal CF, CD onda, RSD Alcalá, Málaga CF, and CA Osasuna. He started coaching with youth teams at Villarreal CF, building his experience, before taking the reigns of the first team during the 2017/2018 season, going on to qualify for the UEFA Europa League twice.
After his time at Villarreal, he would also coach Deportivo Alavés in the top flight, keeping the team in the division. Levante UD was his next side, with whom he spent two seasons and reached the playoffs, after finishing third in the second division.
Javi Calleja has acquired vast experience, coaching more than 50 first division encounters and a good number in the second tier, as well as European fixtures.
The new Coach will take charge of Real Oviedo for the start of preseason on 15th July at El Requexón. He will be assisted by Luismi Loro, José Romero and Jesús Unanua.
Javi Calleja will not make any statements until the moment of his official presentation next week.
