Real Oviedo Vetusta went into Matchday 22 fixture against CD Cayón in Group 1 of the Segunda RFEF with the target of picking up three points and boosting morale. Los Azules needed a win against another of the sides involved in the battle at the bottom of the table, and Jaime Álvarez opted for a starting eleven made up of Marco, Lamine, Osky, Jaime Vázquez, Marco Esteban, Yayo, Izan, Víctor Blanco, Darío, Sesé and Enol.
The B team emerged the stronger side at the start of the match, and in the 4th minute Izan had the first chance to give his team the lead. The midfielder met Lamine's right-wing cross, but his header grazed the post. In the 11th minute Osky tried his luck with a long-range strike, but his effort went just wide of the post. Just when Los Carbayones were enjoying their brightest spell, the referee awarded the hosts a penalty. However, the taker fired the spot kick over the bar, and the score remained 0-0. During the final moments of the first half Mario Sesé twice had opportunities from one-on-ones, but he was denied each time, and the teams went in for halftime with the scores level.
The home team stepped up after the interval and the match became more even. Xavi Sola, Miguélez, Dieguito, and Omar Falah came on as Vetusta looked for a winner. Another good piece of news from today was Lucas Laso's return to action following a long absence through injury. During the final minutes, Santi Miguélez would grab the only goal of the game. A fine counter attack saw the winger convert perfectly to spread joy among all involved with Real Oviedo Vetusta. After taking the lead, the team defended strongly and even had chances to extend their advantage.
The victory sees Jaime Álvarez's team pick up three very important points against one of their biggest rivals in the relegation battle. The win sees the B team move up to 14th place on 22 points, with thoughts now on the league fixture against Guijuelo at El Requexón.
