Since this weekend, the name Marianín shines brightly on one of the avenues in his birthplace, the town of Fabero, in the El Bierzo region of León.

As a former player for Real Oviedo, he achieved one of his most outstanding achievements in Spanish football; he was crowned the top scorer of the First Division and debuted with the national team.

This weekend, in the presence of a crowd of guests, Fabero honoured its most illustrious resident by naming one of the town's main streets after Marianín.

Real Oviedo, represented by its ambassador, Carlos Muñoz, and the head of Historical Heritage, Miguel Sanz, joined the tribute ceremony, which was very emotional. Muñoz and Sanz presented Marianín with an institutional gift from Real Oviedo.

The mayor of Fabero, Mari Paz Martínez, and the councilor for Culture of the municipality, Sasquia Julio, represented the City Council at the baptism ceremony of the Avenida de Marianín.

In 1973, Marianín was crowned the top scorer in the First Division, made his debut with the Spanish national team, and scored Real Oviedo's 1000th goal in the top tier of Spanish football. Marianín and Lángara are the only Real Oviedo players to date to have been top scorers in the First Division.
