After a season to be remembered for our Real Oviedo Genuine and EFRODIV teams, it’s now time to review this past season ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Real Oviedo put the icing on the cake by winning the La Liga Genuine Superación Group with a total of 11 wins and 1 draw. The title was finally decided at the last venue, in the city of Getafe CF. With Los Azules tied on points with the host team, the title was decided in Los Carbayones' favour based on FairPlay, one of the most remarkable aspects of this competition.
Since September, Los Azules have shown their skills and know-how in Tarragona, A Coruña, Burgos, in addition to the aforementioned final phase in Madrid. Also noteworthy was the participation of Real Oviedo Genuine and the EFROIV team in the Astur+ Pelayo Novo League, which has a better level and more resources and teams each year thanks to the work of the Asturian Federation.
In addition to the regular leagues, the club and its teams have been present in different tournaments, such as the MIC of CD Montevil, the Somos Capaces Tournament in Posada de Llanera, the Christmas Tournament against the University of Oviedo’s 1st RFFPA team, and the V Integra Tournament in Baiona. This demonstrates Real Oviedo’s commitment to normalising the game of football among those with intellectual disabilities.
Real Oviedo Genuine is one of the social projects within the club of which we are most proud. Its successes, together with the work carried out within the Foundation, have transcended the world of sport. The team was received before and after winning their championship by the President of the Principality of Asturias at the Presidency headquarters, where they were able to explain their non-sports project. The City Council of Oviedo, headed by its mayor, also received Real Oviedo Genuine as champions. In both institutions, they were also honoured, and the players experienced firsthand what professional athletes feel. But undoubtedly, the great culmination of this season was experienced at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium, where they offered the La Liga Genuine Champion’s Trophy to the nearly 30,000 Real Oviedo fans who were present at the playoff match that pitted the first team against RCD Espanyol, a moment they will never forget.
These recognitions are in addition to those obtained at the Awards to the Best of Asturian Football of La Nueva España and the 2023 RFFPA Gala of Asturian Football. It was undoubtedly a season to remember.
Real Oviedo Genuine is a versatile project that is not limited only to sports but tries to leave its mark in different areas. The Real Oviedo Foundation offers job opportunities to its players, who carry out different functions within the club. In the educational area, the Real Oviedo Genuine project carries out initiatives to raise awareness and visibility of functional diversity. During the 2023-24 academic school year, a total of 25 seminars were held at different schools in the region, reaching more than 1,500 students. In this activity, the central focus is on the players, who tell in first person what it means to them to be a part of the Real Oviedo organisation as players and their participation in the different competitions and activities.
In short, the capacity for self-improvement and sacrifice in abundance that was found during this 2023/24 season will continue in the 2024/25 season for our Real Oviedo Genuine players and the EFRODIV team.
